16U Ruffnecks Return Strong Group

TEAM ROSTER | TEAM SCHEDULE

The 16u Ruffnecks season is defined by a schedule similar to that of the 17u Squad.  Indeed, both teams are in many of the same events.  We believe that our 16u players, most with significant varsity HS experience, should play the most challenging schedule possible. The 16u schedule finds the 16u (primarily rising juniors), often traveling with the 17u Ruffnecks for much of the summer.  Trips to New Jersey and Georgia are on the June calendar.  Similarly, the teams play in the same events in our region.  The 16’s will attend the 17u Perfect Game WWBA in Marietta, GA in 2025.

The objectives are to expose players to college recruiters in premier events, to provide competitive challenges, and to continue the teaching and development that comes with playing sound, TEAM-oriented baseball.  This means that players are asked to be unselfish in competition.  “Exposure ” and development are differentiated from “Showcasing.”  We believe we put our players in the best possible situations to maximize exposure while continuing to learn the game from highly qualified coaching.  Our Coaching Staff is manned by 3 to 4 coaches consistently.  Jon Beverly will be managing the 16u squad in 2025.  he will be joined by Dirk Baker who is an experienced college coach.  Mike Lyon joins the 16’s in mid-summer following his efforts with the 14u Ruffnecks.

Pre-Season and Scout Day

The 16U experience begins in early June with “Pre-Season” training the first week of June.  These sessions are designed to be daily workouts to include batting practice, skill work, and to assess and recharge pitching arms for the busy summer.  The Pre-Season culminates with a SCOUT DAY on Wednesday, June 11.  Pre-Season workouts create an opportunity for players who have finished their spring seasons to recalibrate and get preparatory work done with instructive supervision.  The primary objective is development and preparation.  The 16U Ruffnecks travel in June to the 17U PG WWBA National Championships in Marietta, Georgia in 2025 season in earnest. The squad finishes at the Best of the Best in Boston.
