Features of Ruffnecks Fall Baseball

Fall Baseball provides an opportunity for us to do what we always do: Teach, coach, and play baseball in a developmental format.  We use the fall season to welcome new candidates and to allow our returning players to enjoy baseball in a relaxed, yet instructive setting.  We limit our Fall activity exclusively to weekends.  There are no mid-week practices or obligations… just an opportunity (mostly Sundays) to enjoy baseball in small doses in the unique New England autumn.

The home for Fall Baseball is the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC).  The NEBC is a multi-field facility built in 2013 and owned by the founders of the New England Ruffnecks.  The NEBC was designed to be a centerpiece for baseball in the New England region.  The NEBC enjoys a reputation for fine fields, reliability, and a relaxed atmosphere.  Management of the facility was leased to 3Step Sports LLC in 2022.  It remains the home for Ruffnecks during fall.

First Session: Sunday, September 10

Registration begins continues through the end of August.  Registration forms may be sent by mail or by email in pdf format.  Reciept of a completed Registration Form holds a place in the Fall Program until we have reached capacity.  A registration accompanied by payment by check or money order secures a spot in the program.  We do not process payments without notification before depositing.  If a registration is submitted and a family seeks confirmation, please contact us at neruffnecks@gmail.com or at (781) 400-1959.

13U Ruffnecks Fall Program Details:

The 13U Ruffnecks Fall Program is for rising 13U players… players who have just completed their final spring and summer on the small diamond. While the 13U Fall Program serves as a selection mechanism, it is definitely NOT a “tryout.”  Our 13U Fall Baseball Program is a high energy, instructive, developmental program.  It is designed to teach and usher players along the transitional path to baseball on the big diamond.  It is a valuable experience whether or not a player intends to be a candidate for the Ruffnecks 13U team.

How it Works – Program Plan:

Yes, we use Fall Baseball to buidl our newest class, our 2024 team!  The 13U Fall Program is the best entry point to the Ruffnecks program.  It is an opportunity to understand and experience what Ruffnecks is all about.  And we get to know each other.

The curriculum for 13U Fall Baseball is built around fundamental principles for baseball on the full-sized diamond.  Even young players with experience on the big diamond find 13U Ruffnecks Fall Baseball a challenging and valuable developmental opportunity.  Drills, positional work, situations, and scrimmages comprise the curriculum.  Each week introduces new concepts with continuity.  Pitchers benefit from instructional flat ground work, sides sessions, and live opportunities to pitch one-inning stints in our intrasquad games.

  • The 13U Fall provides a fixed date schedule with activity on Sundays from 1:00pm to 3:30pm.
  • Activity is at the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC) Northborough, MA
  • No mid-week practices, though use of our indoor Facility in Needham may be incorporated.
  • No activity the long weekend of October 7-9.
  • Fall Baseball is compatible with other sports commitments. Players may come late or depart early from sessions.
  • The six to seven week program provides a detailed, clear curriculum.  Concepts and skill work are introduced, presented, and taught.  We do not “just play.”
  • Sessions are staffed by coaches numbering between 10 and 15 or more instructors on a given week.

Selection to the 2024 13U Ruffnecks Team:

We encourage players who are candidates for the 2024 13U Ruffnecks roster to attend Fall Baseball.  We do not hold “tryouts” during the summer or ask families to make hurried decisions.  Our process is deliberate and instructive.  We communicate with prospective candidates and families and respect that they have choices.  We do not recruit.  See the website page about the “Selection Process.”  As an alternative to “tryouts” for the 13U team we may accommodate serious candidates prior to 13U Fall Baseball in the following manner:

  • Inquiries: We respond to inquiries, answer questions, and explain our program.  A phone conversation can be scheduled after an email inquiry to neruffnecks@gmail.com or a message left at (781) 400-1959
  • Interview Process:  We schedule calls to answer questions about our program.  At the time of selection we schedule an interview via Zoom (or in person) for prospective 13U players and families as part of the enrollment process.

The Ruffnecks program does not field teams younger than 13U.  We simply ask aspiring candidates to participate in what we do, what we teach, and how we go about things, even if they are unable to attend every session.
