Features of Ruffnecks Fall Baseball

Fall Baseball provides an opportunity for us to do what we always do: Teach, coach, and play baseball in a developmental format.  We use the fall season as a time to welcome new players and to keep returning players on the field, enjoying baseball in a relaxed, yet instructive setting.  We confine our activity exclusively to weekends.  There are no mid-week practices or obligations… just an opportunity (mostly Sundays) to enjoy the game in the unique New England autumn.

The home for Fall Baseball is the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC).  The NEBC is a multi-field facility built and owned by the founders of the New England Ruffnecks in 2013 to be a centerpiece for baseball in the New England region for everyone.  The NEBC enjoys a reputation for fine fields, reliability, and a relaxed atmosphere.   The NEBC continues as our home in 2022.  The management of the facility is leased to 3Step Sports LLC.

13U Ruffnecks Fall Program Details:

The 13U Ruffnecks Fall Program is for rising 13U players… players who have just completed their final spring and summer on the small diamond. While the 13U Fall Program serves as a selection mechanism, it is definitely NOT designed as a tryout.  Our 13U Fall Baseball Program is a high energy, instructive, developmental program.  It is designed to teach and usher players along the transitional path to baseball on the big diamond.  It is a stand alone program, regardless of whether or not a player intends to be a candidate for the Ruffnecks 2022 13U team. This is the entry point to the Ruffnecks program.

The curriculum for 13U Fall Baseball is built around the fundamental principles for baseball on the full-sized diamond.  Even young players with experience on the big diamond find 13U Ruffnecks Fall Baseball a challenging and valuable developmental opportunity.  Drills, positional work, simulated game situations, and actual scrimmages comprise the curriculum.  Each week introduces new concepts with continuity.  Pitchers benefit from instructional flat ground work, sides sessions, and live opportunities to pitch one-inning stints in our intrasquad games.

  • The 13U Fall provides a fixed date schedule with activity on Sundays from 8:00am to 10:30am.
  • All activity is at the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC) Northborough, MA
  • No mid-week practices, though use of our indoor Facility in Needham is permitted.
  • No activity the long weekend of October 9-11.
  • Fall Baseball is compatible with other sports commitments. Players may come late or depart early from sessions.
  • The six to seven week program provides a detailed, clear curriculum.
  • Concepts and skill work are introduced, presented, and taught.  We do not “just play.”
  • Sessions are staffed by coaches numbering between 10 and 15 or more instructors on a given week.

Selection to the 2022 13U Ruffnecks Team:

We encourage players who are candidates for the 13U Ruffnecks to attend Fall Baseball.  Since we do not hold “tryouts” during the summer, our process is deliberate and instructive.  Nevertheless, we communicate with prospective candidates and families and respect that they have choices.  We do not recruit.  See the website page about the “Selection Process.”  As an alternative to “tryouts” for the 13U team we accommodate serious candidates between now and 13U Fall Baseball in the following manner:

  • Inquiries: We respond to inquiries, answer questions, and explain our program.  A phone conversation can be scheduled after an email inquiry to neruffnecks@gmail.com or a message left at (781) 400-1959
  • Interview Process:  We schedule calls to answer questions about our program.  At the time of selection we schedule an interview via Zoom (or in person) for prospective 13U players and families as part of the enrollment process.

The Ruffnecks program does not field teams younger than 13U.  The roster selection process for the 2023 13U Ruffnecks is deliberate.  There are no tryouts to gain admission to Fall Baseball.  We simply ask aspiring candidates to participate in what we do, what we teach, and how we go about things, even if they are unable to attend every session.

General Features & Benefits of the Ruffnecks Fall Baseball Program

Ruffnecks Fall Baseball is intended to be compatible with most student-athlete’s fall schedules.  The 13U Fall Program is Sundays ONLY, but we work with families with schedule conflicts.  Players ages 14U to 18U can participate with flexible scheduling in the High School Wood Bat and College Prep programs.  Players have options for playing on Friday (when Friday slots are scheduled), Saturday, or Sunday on a week-to-week basis.  We try to accommodate requests. Players may request multiple days/slots (based on availability). All play at least one day per weekend.  Team rosters are shuffled and posted every week.  A few things to note:

  • 13U Fall Baseball – Sundays Mornings Only (Space limited to 50 participants)
  • HS Wood Bat Ruffnecks – (Primarily Sundays)
  • College Prep Ruffnecks – (Primarily Sundays)
